Khao Phra Thaeo is one of the last areas of original rainforest on Phuket, covering about 23 sq km of protected jungle in the Thalang District. The reserve is home to the Bang Pae Waterfall, a wide natural pool suitable for swimming, and the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project — a sanctuary that cares for gibbons rescued from illegal captivity and reintroduces them to the wild. The walking trail is easy and well-maintained, passing through dense jungle with regular sightings of wild boar, hornbills and monitor lizards. Entry for foreigners is ฿200.
