Wat Mahathat Laem Sak is a Buddhist temple in the Ao Luek district of eastern Krabi, about 45 minutes from Ao Nang. The setting is what makes it worth the drive: the temple sits on a narrow peninsula extending into a calm estuary lake, surrounded by water on three sides with mangroves and limestone hills in the distance. The main pagoda and ordination hall are ornate and well maintained, and the site is rarely crowded — a different experience from the tourist-circuit temples closer to town. Entry is free. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered); sarongs are available at the entrance if needed. Getting here requires a car or scooter — there is no public transport to Laem Sak.
